Spain's electric vehicle market has changed dramatically in the past twelve months. Chinese brands have arrived with prices nobody expected, Korean brands have matured their products significantly, and the charging network has expanded to the point where long trips are no longer daunting.
This guide covers the essentials: what electric cars are sold in Spain, what they really cost and how government incentives work. No marketing, no noise.
The Market in 2026
Spain has one of the lower EV penetration rates in Western Europe, but the growth pace has accelerated. According to ANFAC, fully electric car registrations grew 38% in the first half of 2026 versus the same period in 2025.
The most significant change has been BYD's arrival. The Chinese brand entered Spain in 2023 with three models and has been quietly gaining market share: prices below European competition, respectable ranges, and an expanding dealership network. Alongside BYD, Kia holds its position as the quality reference in the mid-to-high segment, with the EV6 as the best-selling Korean EV in Spain.

Plan MOVES III: Spain's EV Incentive Program
The Plan MOVES III is the Spanish Government's incentive program for alternative energy vehicles. In 2026 it offers discounts of up to 9,000€ when scrapping an old vehicle. The incentive is deducted directly from the purchase price at the dealership. Source: MITECO — Plan MOVES III.
