Traveling in a Tesla is a unique experience, but it can be even better if you have the right tools. These apps not only help you plan routes and charges better, but also make your trip safer, more efficient and flexible. On EchoRoute I use many of them every week.
1. A Better Route Planner (ABRP)
The most complete for planning long trips. Calculates routes with optimized charging stops. You can add variables like speed, weather, car weight and more. Allows you to simulate real trips and export the route to the car. Ideal for planning outside the Tesla network or in countries with less infrastructure.
2. PlugShare
Collaborative map of charging points, updated by users. Reviews, photos and alerts about chargers. Very useful for knowing if a point is working or not. Allows filtering by connector type and power. Daily use if you travel through new or less covered areas.
3. Tesla App
The official app. Essential. Control charging, climate, locks, lights, etc. See the car's status in real time. Schedule services or report problems. From EchoRoute I control the car remotely even when I'm editing at an Airbnb.
4. Chargemap
Similar to PlugShare, but focused on Europe. Excellent in France, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium. Offers a physical charging card compatible with many networks (optional). Good design and useful filters. Ideal complement to ABRP and PlugShare if you're going to travel central Europe.
5. Park4Night
App created to find places to sleep in vans, campers... or Teslas. Quiet and safe places to spend the night. Comments, photos and data about nearby services. Very useful if you combine your Tesla with Camp Mode. Although I don't sleep in the car, this app is key for those who do.
6. Google Maps
Yes, the classic, but with added value: Search for restaurants, supermarkets, accommodations and reviews. Measure real distances outside Tesla routes. See real-time traffic. Mandatory complement for any trip, even with Tesla GPS.
7. Airbnb
To rent comfortable accommodation while you work and travel. Filters for Wi-Fi, workspace, washing machine, parking, etc. Many times I find places with included charger. Allows organizing by week or month. On EchoRoute I use Airbnb to stay Monday to Friday in each city.
8. Spotify / YouTube Music
Your ideal road companions. Listen to podcasts, music or audiobooks during the trip. Integrates perfectly with the Tesla system. You can even listen offline if you download content. Perfect for staying motivated and entertained on long stretches.
9. PhotoPills (if you're a content creator)
App for photographers and videographers. Tells you where the sun, moon will rise, or where the Milky Way will be. Ideal for planning shots during your stops or journeys. Widely used by creators who make travel content. If you're going to film like me, this app is gold.
10. JuicePass (or local charging apps)
Depends on the country, but many companies have their own app to access chargers. In Italy: Enel X (JuicePass). In Spain: Iberdrola, Repsol, Endesa. In Germany: EnBW, Maingau, etc. Download all you can based on your route. Some require prior registration or a card.
Conclusion
These apps not only make your Tesla trip easier, they make it more efficient, freer and more enjoyable. From planning to entertainment, through accommodation and photography, each one plays a key role.
On EchoRoute I use them constantly to be able to work and move fluidly around the world. A Tesla, internet and these apps... and you're ready to go.
