After going through spec sheets and test-driving the models at dealerships, here is my honest recommendation:

Only need it in Buenos Aires city and suburbs: Dolphin Mini GL. Cheapest option (USD 23,990), fits any parking garage, 280 km is more than enough for urban use. Charges 10-80% in 30 minutes.
Leave the city regularly but don't want charging anxiety: Yuan Pro or Atto 2. Both are pure electrics with ~400 km range. The USD 2,000 difference between them is basically size and SUV ground clearance.
Long highway trips and/or no home charging: Atto 2 DM-i or Song Pro DM-i (plug-in hybrids). You get ~1,000 km combined range (electric + petrol). These are the best-selling models in Argentina right now, exactly for this reason.
Need a pickup truck: Shark. It is the only hybrid pickup on the market at the price of a Hilux SR full. If you use it for work, fuel savings offset the premium in under three years.
Looking for best overall value: Atto 2 DM-i. Hybrid SUV, 1,000+ km combined range, USD 31,000 on pre-sale. The best-selling model and for good reason.

BYD vs the rest: what makes this Chinese brand different?

Other Chinese brands also grew massively in Argentina. Chery registered 928% more units than the previous year. Haval 518%. BAIC 169%. But BYD achieved something none of them did: breaking into the annual top 10 with just ten months of operation.

Why, based on my research:

They make their own batteries (literally: BYD stands for "Build Your Dreams" and started as a battery manufacturer before making cars). This gives them cost control that Tesla and most competitors don't have.
The right mix of pure electric and plug-in hybrid. In a country without a consolidated charging network, the DM-i hybrids are the perfect entry point. Tesla doesn't have that option.

This is the question that stops most people. The honest answer: the public charging network is growing but still limited. As of mid-2026:
