One of the biggest challenges of traveling across America —and especially Argentina— in a Tesla is getting it ready for roads that were definitely not designed for a sporty electric vehicle. But that’s also part of the adventure.
We knew that if we wanted to cross the legendary Route 40 and other off-road trails in Patagonia and the north of the country, we had to make a few key modifications. So we got to work.
Before vs Afer

This photo was taken the day I went to pick up the car in Madrid with all the modifications done.

This is the Tesla Model 3 just as I bought it back in 2023.
Here I’ll tell you about the modifications I made to the Tesla to travel across Argentina and South America.
Higher Suspension for Tough Roads
We installed a Mountain Pass Performance lift kit, which raises the suspension by 1.75 inches, giving us more ground clearance to avoid unnecessary bumps to the chassis on dirt, gravel, or muddy roads.
This kit is specifically designed for Tesla, so it doesn’t compromise safety or highway performance. It’s a key upgrade if you want to leave the pavement behind without worry.
Battery Protection
We also added a battery protection kit, giving us peace of mind when dealing with loose rocks or large branches on less-traveled roads. This mod is crucial to protect the heart of the vehicle: the battery pack.
Extended Mudguards
We installed new mudguards to protect the sides of the car and reduce the impact of dirt and stones. This not only preserves the look of the vehicle but also keeps dust and mud from reaching sensitive areas.
Let’s see some pictures

Why All This?
Because this isn’t just another trip… it’s a real expedition, full of challenges, alternative routes, and places most people never reach. We want to discover the continent from within —without letting the car be a limitation.
These modifications allow us to take the Tesla Model 3 Long Range to places that would normally be off the map. And that’s what excites us.
